Successful Bimagrip LS Application on MV Delphine
- SHIP DECK ANTI-SKID AND SHIP DECK PAINTING
- Marine
Summary
Objectives:
The main objective was to provide an anti-slip surface for the largest RORO freight ever created before the cargo operations commenced. WJ Marine had a limited time frame to meet the vessel’s deadline and ensure smooth day-to-day operations without delays. All necessary machinery and equipment were shipped prior to the project start date.
Solutions:
After weather conditions improved, WJ Marine’s team prepared the ship deck to achieve an SA2.5 finish, removing rust, dirt, and scale to ensure optimal adhesion. The deck was blasted and primed using Beegrip’s rust inhibiting solvent-based polyurethane primer to protect the steelwork from corrosion and enhance the bond with the Bimagrip LS system. WJ Marine installed the Bimagrip LS system, a 3-component system combining waterproofing, wearing course, and high friction surfacing, on the vessel’s critical areas across its 5 separate decks. The chosen system utilized a resin loading of 5kg/m2 and was cast with 1-3mm Emery Bauxite aggregate to achieve a robust and durable finish.

Outcome:
The project was a success. WJ Marine takes pride in their contribution to the remarkable MV Delphine, completing the project within an astonishing 4-day transit in 2018. Approximately 1315m2 of new safety surfacing was installed on various areas around the vessel, providing a viable and safe option for regular cargo transport. This project showcases WJ Marine’s adaptability and expertise in delivering surfacing solutions, backed by meticulous planning and high-quality workmanship.
